Youth Orchestra
The Southern Excellence Youth Orchestra was established in 2025 by our esteemed head director, Jamie Romo, with the mission to provide students in the North Texas area with a unique and enriching musical experience. Our Orchestra offers young musicians the opportunity to engage in collaborative ensemble playing, fostering an environment where students can develop their musical talents alongside their peers in an age-appropriate, supportive setting.
The vision behind the Southern Excellence Youth Orchestra is to create a space where students not only refine their technical skills on their instruments but also build essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and discipline. By performing with fellow musicians, students are empowered to grow individually while contributing to a collective musical journey. This setting encourages creativity, personal growth, and a sense of community, all of which are invaluable as they continue their educational and artistic pursuits.
Our Orchestras
Symphony Nova Orchestra
The Symphony Nova Orchestra is designed for students with prior experience in an orchestral setting, offering an advanced and challenging musical environment. This prestigious ensemble is tailored for students in grades 9 through 12 who are interested in refining their skills and tackling more complex and demanding pieces of music.
Under the guidance of our conductor, members of the Symphony Nova Orchestra will have the unique opportunity to perform sophisticated musical pieces, while also pushing the boundaries of their musical abilities while engaging in a highly collaborative and inspiring artistic journey.
This orchestra serves as both a platform for personal and artistic growth and a stepping stone for students considering future musical endeavors, including college programs or professional pursuits.
Harmonia Orchestra
The Harmonia Orchestra is designed for young musicians who are ready to build upon their musical foundation and continue developing their technique, ensemble skills, and artistic expression. This ensemble provides a supportive and engaging environment where students gain valuable orchestral experience while preparing for more advanced performance opportunities. Students with 2-3 years of experience are encouraged to audition for this orchestra.

Musicians will strengthen essential skills such as tone production, rhythmic accuracy, intonation, balance, and musical interpretation through the study of age-appropriate orchestral repertoire. Rehearsals emphasize collaboration, confidence, and disciplined practice while encouraging students to grow as both individual musicians and ensemble members.

The Harmonia Orchestra is an excellent fit for students seeking to expand their orchestral experience, prepare for honor ensembles and school orchestra leadership opportunities, and develop the skills needed to advance into higher-level ensembles. Through challenging yet accessible repertoire and meaningful performance experiences, students are inspired to reach new levels of musical achievement while becoming part of a community that values excellence, growth, and a love of music.
